Synod Life

Robert Pope's Address to the Meeting of the National Synod of Wales

Details

'You are the body of Christ and individually members of it' (1 Cor. 12:27) says Paul in this most challenging passage of his first letter to the Corinthians.  It is a passage which offers us two important principles; first, there should be unity and not division in the church for all are one body in Christ and, second, that the body of Christ is made up of diverse people each of whom has a place within it. There is unity, but there is not uniformity. How wonderful that might seem. How easy it might appear to be to practice. How great has been the church's failure down through the centuries to allow such great principles to govern its life and witness.

Events to mark the Great Ejectment of 1662

Now that we are well into 2012, the year that marks the 350th anniversary of The Great Ejectment, when more than 2,000 ministers were turned out of their livings because they could not 'conform' to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, events to mark this significant date are crowding in.

The spirit of the year is captured in the title to a conference at Oxford University – Courage, Conscience and Conviction. The Act of Uniformity obliged all ministers to conform to the practice of the Church of England. Those who refused suffered persecution and harassment. Yet so many did refuse. They faced prosecution, imprisonment and fines. They could not take public office, they could not go to university.

Film Making Day for Beginners

Details

So you thought you couldn't make movies... Well, just goes to 'show'!

Take a group of enthusiastic church folk, give 'em a camera, a computer and some encouragement, and voila...Steven Spielberg watch out!

Imagine the possibilities for your congregation... As the demand for web content grows, so chapels and churches are seeing the possibilities of using film to communicate their mission and presence. This movie is one of two shot during our film day at St Michael's College, Llandaff.

If you're an aspiring Hitchcock, or want to be the second Spielberg, contact your friendly neighbourhood training officer. In the meantime, sit back, crack open the popcorn and enjoy the show.

Link to Companions Recruiting Film

Details

Dear All,

We need more companions for the campaign of radical welcome!  We need as many as possible, as quickly as possible, and we thought that one great way to attract them would be to make a short recruitment film. So we did!  And here's  the link: http://youtu.be/1v-qpqy3ZZM

Please watch the film (it's only a couple of minutes long) and think about whether being a companion is for you. Please consider it carefully yourself – and even if you decide it's not for you – please help cascade it through the denomination by sending it on to at least three URC people today!

If, after viewing the film, you have any queries about any aspect of the companion's role, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Thank you.
