Flintshire Church gets £350,000 facelift

An iconic building that was the scene of a bloody massacre 140 years ago has been given a £350,000 facelift. The historic Tyddyn Street Church (United Reformed Church and Presbyterian Church of Wales), in Mold, has been transformed in a renovation that has turned it into a community and arts centre as well as a church.
It was built in the early 1860's as the Free Church, an independent Congregationalist church, and it was the scene of the Mold Riots soon after in 1869 when there was a confrontation between local miners and soldiers of the Kings Own Chester Regiment.
Praise Bus Heralds Olympic Torch in Rhyl
Details- Details

On the 29th May the Olympic torch journeyed along the North Wales Coast, from Anglesey, up Snowdon and through to Chester. Amongst the lifeboats, mountains and walled cities, the torch also passed through some of the towns along the coast, including Rhyl.
The United Church in Rhyl, with the encouragement of the URC National Synod of Wales, and the Christian initiative, More than Gold, was able to mark the occassion by playing its part in ʻThe Journeyʼ - a Praise Bus going ahead of the Olympic torch, indicating and sharing Godʼs blessings on the countries, cities, towns and villages through which it travels.
The Praise Bus, the inspiration and drive for which came from Escalls Methodist Church, passed through Rhyl, with live worship music and prayers offered from the open top roof, before stopping in the town centre outside the United Church in Rhyl. After joining us for lunch, the minister of the United Church in Rhyl, Rev. Paul Robinson, joined the worship team on the bus, and travelled to Chester, playing, singing and praying for Godʼs blessing over North Wales and Chester.
We wish the bus well as it continues ʻThe Journeyʼ, and of course continue to pray for Godʼs blessing in this land, and a real sense of his presence on the streets, and outpouring of His Spirit so that the Gospel will be heard as Good News everywhere.

PARKFIELDS COMMUNITY CENTRE EASTER HOLIDAY CLUB 2012
“WHAT DOES EASTER MEAN TO YOU”
Building on the success of previous holiday clubs, the theme of our holiday club at Easter was “What Does Easter Mean to you”. 22 children registered over the three days and with the help of volunteers from local churches and the community including parents and grandparents we explored the traditions of Easter and the stories of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
This was achieved through Power Point stories, songs, games and craft actities including making a Palm Sunday collage, Easter wreaths, Easter gardens and Easter baskets with chicks and eggs.
The highlight was the making of a large Cross depicting the ‘Stations of the Cross’ and other images of Easter as well crowns of thorns using plastic hoola hoops and the robes of Jesus out of material. We also enjoyed lots of food
Everyone involved had a great time and learned more about what Easter means to us as Christians and why Jesus had to die on a cross.
This is another example of how the church can engage with children in sharing the good news of Gospel, reaching out, inviting children in as opposed to waiting for or expecting them to come.
We pray that the seeds we have sown will grow in the hearts of the children and helpers, and that we can nurture those seeds and encourage them to develop as we continue to do God’s work here in Mold even though we may not see the results for many years to come.
